Why we started
The world asks who you want to become before it lets you discover what you can do.
from our founder
I grew up on the path I was supposed to follow: get good grades, play soccer, go to college. For a while, that was enough. My transcript, GPA, and soccer were my story.
Then soccer was no longer part of it. Suddenly I was expected to know what came next, but I hadn’t had enough chances to try things, fail at things, or discover what I was actually capable of. I spent months searching for a gap-year program because I needed room to figure it out.
Traveling gave me that room. Photography gave me something to build. A portfolio of real work opened doors my transcript never had.
That’s why I started Nextreks. Students shouldn’t have to wait until they’re lost, out of school, or already behind to gain real experience. Before they graduate high school, they should get to explore what interests them, take on real Challenges, build durable skills, and create work that proves what they can do.
Nextreks is the platform I wish I’d had when I was 16.

Every student deserves more than a GPA and a list of activities. They deserve agency over their direction, and proof they can carry into whatever comes next.

Durable skills last
Tools, jobs, and technology change. Communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and resilience carry from one chapter of life to the next.
Students deserve more than a transcript
A GPA shows performance in classes. It can’t show the project someone led, the problem they solved, or the idea they brought to life.
Students deserve agency
They shouldn’t have to answer “what do you want to be?” before they’ve had the freedom to try enough things to know.
Our enemy
Not school, teachers, or college. Our enemy is the empty claim: “I’m a leader,” “I’m a good communicator,” “I have a 4.0.” Statements that may be true but prove nothing. Nextreks replaces claims with evidence.

Evidence over claims
A student should be able to point at something they made, not describe themselves with adjectives. Everything we build works backwards from that.

Clear about what was checked
Every Island ends with a Capstone that brings its skills together, and every piece says who stands behind it: the student, a named person who confirmed it, or a named adult who reviewed it.

It belongs to the student
Students decide what goes public, and their portfolio is theirs to export and share. We are building something for them, not a record we hold.

Everything begins private. Students control what they make public.
