Just me. My neighbor M. was the interviewee.

The goal

Get to know someone whose life is different from mine, and give something back.

What I did

Planned 15 questions, interviewed her for 52 minutes, wrote a 350-word portrait from her point of view, and checked it with her.

Result

She confirmed it: "you got it right." My give-back was a video call with her sister.

What I learned

The real story came when I stopped following my question list.

Camp Bayside Counselor

Counselor team of 12, led by the camp director

The goal

Help first-time campers settle in without getting homesick.

What I did

Ran morning check-ins where every camper said one thing on their mind, and followed up with the quiet ones.

Result

No one in my group went home early from homesickness.

What I learned

One real question works better than five quick ones.
